Book clubs, or literature circles, are a fun way to differentiate and get your class reading engaging text! Use these book club graphic organizers to help your students to practice various reading standards.
There are numerous ways that this product can be used. I like to give a mini lesson covering our weekly skill. Then, when students meet with me during guided reading groups, we read a chapter from their book club books. We work together to fill out a graphic organizer that covers the skill we are working on for the week. The next time that they come to meet with me, we will read another chapter and then they will complete the very same graphic organizer on their own. They are very successful because they have already had direct modeling. I do not sign my kids different jobs. Instead, every student is working on our weekly skill and getting the practice that they need.
These graphic organizers can also be used in independent reading centers or as homework assignments.
You can prepare the materials several ways. You can chose the skills and graphic organizers ahead of time for the entire novel. Then, you can make packets for each student with the printables that they will need. If you use reading notebooks, you can have students glue the graphic organizers in their notebook. The printables can also be given one at a time as you cover a skill.
There are 29 graphic organizers included in the file.
