I love leading book clubs with my chapter book readers, but I always struggled with helping them be prepared for the meeting while also keeping their work authentic. (I always found assigned roles such as "Word Detective" and "Summarizer" and "Questioner" to be limiting.) So, I created a general guide and note-taking sheet that would prepare my students to read and discuss any book, that I could use again and again with different groups over the whole school year.
Each notebook includes a page for students to answer pre-reading questions, a page for students to complete before each meeting, a page for students to complete after each meeting, and a page to be completed once the book is finished. The before and after meeting pages can be copied as many times as needed depending on how many times you expect a group to meet.
Alternate pages are provided for classrooms that might run a little differently than mine, such as pages that do not ask students to check off if they have post-its in their book, and an alternate cover with no "Book Club Tips" on the back.
