Book Club is an alternate way of doing Literature Circles in your classroom that concentrates more on depth of thought and writing than the traditional Literature Circle does. Rather than filling out a prescribed form where students give short, closed answers, each student addresses a series of open ended Thinking Stems designed to promote cognitive development in reading and writing, and improved speaking and listening skills.
Book Club is aligned with Common Core (CCSS) and College and Career Readiness (CCR) standards. Book Club will help meet grade-level Reading Literature (RL), Reading Informational Text (RI), Writing (W), and Speaking and Listening (SL) standards as well as CCR Anchor standards in Reading, Writing, and Speaking and Listening.
The program includes teaching implementation strategies and Book Club Thinking Stem task cards to be copied for student groups.
