Description

This Common Core-Aligned resource was created to use in conjunction with Book Clubs in the elementary classroom. Book clubs are groups of students that are grouped together according to their reading level. They are given a text (preferably a chapter book) that is on their group's independent reading level. The students are asked to read a chapter or certain number of pages each day, then complete an activity based on their specified job for the day. Each day their job changes, which means the skill they are working on also changes. The following day the students discuss their jobs and information learned the previous day. The groups contain 3-5 students and the groups meet each day. When the students have completed their book, they complete a culminating project to share their book with the rest of the class (culminating project ideas and rubric provided).

Book clubs increase reading comprehension, student interest in reading, and also assess important reading skills for both literature and informational texts. Book clubs also help to promote speaking and listening skills, an important skill found in the Common Core Standards. I hope you enjoy implementing Book Clubs in your classroom!
