Want your students to read more? Try sending them on a blind date with some books!

I used this version of the game with my honors 12th grade class. It has plenty of high interest titles students have given supremely high reviews to. The selections include both fiction and nonfiction titles.

This lesson comes with two handouts! You can choose to give students the names of each book or withhold them. I always chose to leave them in the dark; it is a blind date, after all!

Students should follow the directions on the second slide of the PowerPoint by giving each title one, two, or three hearts based on the descriptions. Then the teacher will reveal each title using the PowerPoint. If using the document with no titles, students can write down each title for reference later.

You may decide to ask students individually or in groups how they rated each book. This is a great way to determine literature circles or simply a fun activity before a trip to the library. I recommend doing this activity at the beginning of the semester so students can have a list of a few books to read throughout the year.
