This incentive was created specifically for students in grades 1-2. This can be used by classroom teachers or media specialists as a fairly easy way to motivate students to read.
During a nine week quarter (or whatever time frame you prefer) students will choose books to read. After reading a book, they can fill out a "Book-It" sheet where they:
For Fiction: Draw a pic of the main character, tell the main character's name, and tell at least one thing about the main character from the story.
For Nonfiction: Draw a picture of the book's subject and then write down 2 facts they learned from reading this story.
Students will turn the completed "Book-It" form in to the teacher/library teacher and if approved will receive a reading sticker to place on their "Book-It" sticker chart. Teacher will then place their completed Book-It form in a binder and add a check mark beside that student's name on the record sheet.
The way it is set up currently, students must get six stickers on their "Book-It" sticker sheet to receive the reading incentive reward (of teacher's choice) at the end of the nine weeks.
