Product Description
Hit the ground running this school year by using book logs with a purpose! How many times have you wondered why you were having your kids log the books they read? Not knowing what to do with the valuable information that you can get? NOW you will! Depending on your purpose and which of the four logs you choose will then determine what data you can collect.
This product contains four different ways to not only have your kids track their reading, but it will also give you valuable insight to their reading. How long is it taking a student to read a page? A book? Are they reading more at home than at school? Why? Are they stuck in a series? The trends or patterns that you will see will help you and your students to set goals and improve their reading. Independent reading IS worth doing! I have also added a sign for what reader SHOULD and SHOULDN’T be doing during independent reading time! Remember, the only way to get better at reading is to READ often and a lot!
I have also created a reflection sheet so that your students will have monthly opportunities to analyze their logs to notice patterns and to then set goals. This will also help them to prepare to meet with you to discuss their findings and then you will be able to guide them to become more proficient and productive readers!
These logs are intended for kids reading on Fountas & Pinell levels J and up. Using the preview as your guide, the logs are as follows:
A) date/ place (H/S-home or school when they read)/title/level/page started/page ended/total # of pages
B) date/place/title/genre/page started/page ended/total pages read
C) date/place/title/author/time started/time ended/page started/page ended/total pages
D) Intended for levels J-M and would be a great place to start as it is more basic having only date/title/start time/end time
As you can see the logs gradually increase in demands and information you can gather. The logs and information created here was adapted from Jennifer Serravallo’sThe Literacy Teacher's Playbook-Grades 3-5 I strongly recommend it to anyone who teaches literacy!
Thanks for stopping by and Happy Reading!
