Description

A book pass is a great way to introduce students to new books and to ensure they always have a list of books from which they can choose their next title.

This form will help your students choose appropriate books that match their interests and abilities. It provides you an opportunity to coach students to recognize the factors that will influence their success with a book and to know that it’s important to choose the right book—not just the shortest one!

I copy this form front/back and have students keep it in their notebooks. We add additional pages throughout the year as we do more book passes (at least once each nine-weeks). Students refer to this sheet whenever they finish a book, searching through their 4’s and 5’s to find the title of the next book they’ll read.

Looking for more independent reading support?

This form is available as an editable document, along with TEN other graphic organizers/reading response activities in my Novel Response Activities for Independent Reading. All of the activities are EASY to EDIT/PERSONALIZE and give you and your students choice as you build an independent reading program.

I also use my Reading Strategy Exit Slips to keep my students accountable for their reading. The twelve EDITABLE exits slips help teachers track reading progress and comprehension
