Do your students have trouble finding books they want to read? Help them to explore books by holding a Book Pass every 2-3 weeks. Book Pass is an activity that provides students with opportunities to examine, rate, and comment on books they find interesting and may want to read. It also helps them weed through ones they don't want to read. I begin every year or semester with this activity, so students always have a list of books they want to read and don't waste time after reading a book trying to find a new one. This activity can be used to introduce your classroom library, introduce new books added to your library, or books that students bring in and want to share. Book Pass can be done in small groups or a large group; just depends on your setting, students, needs, materials, and time frame. Students enjoy this activity and always find new books they like.
