Book projects can be done in many different ways in the classroom. You could use them at the end of a unit, during your whole group reading time, or during student’s independent reading time. I’ve used book projects during my guided reading block, they keep the students who are not working with me on task and excited about reading. Book projects could be completed by students working on their own, in pairs, or in groups.
The completed projects are an excellent addition to portfolios or could be used to document mastery of a specific reading skill.
Some of the book projects will require supplies such as notecards, paper bags, hangers, hole punch, yarn, a stapler, and paper plates.
