Book Recommendation Forms are quite useful. Try as we might, kids don’t always take our word for it. But they will listen intently to their peers, especially when something is seen as being “in” or good. This is a set of pages that will enable your students an opportunity to brag about a good book.
Not only can these be used within your own classroom, but you can also use them within the school library. After a student reads a good book, they should fill out a form and post it in a common zone or inside the book for others to see. Possible zones could be near the classroom bookshelves or the library check out zone.
For a extensive collection of recommendations, place the students’ recommendations in a notebook with tabs for different genres. (Notebook cover, spine sheet, and genre category pages included.)
Teaching your students to write book recommendations can also be used in addressing Common Core Standards about writing opinions. “CCSS.ELA-Literacy.CCRA.W.1 Write arguments to support claims in an analysis of substantive topics or texts using valid reasoning and relevant and sufficient evidence.”
