Getting kids excited about books and building the life-long love of literacy is why many of us love to teach reading! Having kids talk, write and share about books they are reading will help them on the road to their love affair with books. To get this started I inventory my kids and ask for their favorite genre and book(s). I make a graph (see preview) and then I also have students’ names and the types of books they like. This helps serve as a guide for recommending books. This promotes a lot of discussion and you will hear “Hey I like that book too!!” Then I talk with them about what a review is and show them samples of actual reviews and by going on You Tube. The excitement builds when I tell them that they are going to be the reviewers. I also tell them there may be some books they don’t like and that is OK! I tell them how important it is to share books and talk about them! To use this product is quite simple. You will need to have wall space, old library pockets (like featured in the preview) one for each child and recommendation forms (included), as well as the markers indicating “I have a recommendation for you!”. The markers come in color and black and white. You can print them out and have the kids write their names on them or you can laminate them for durability. This is what they use to let a friend know about a book they have for them to read. That marker then goes into the child’s library pocket who is getting the recommendation. It is kind of like getting mail! They love it! Also available in this product are the markers in black and white with a space for a picture or photograph of that child. I have included an editable file with a couple different choices for inserting photos. Once kids have filled out their recommendation forms, they get tucked into the book for others to view. You may choose to create a basket in your library for books your kids will recommend to one another (see preview). A label is included in this product if you chose to do so.
It’s actually 2 products in 1! Kids are rating and reviewing books they have read and then recommending them to friends which gets them talking!!
Thanks for stopping by!
