Have your students grade the book they just read. For the report card students give the author a grade on: characters, plot, setting, themes, and overall story. The worksheet is set up as a chart with a space for comments or explanations as to why a grade was given. Use in combination with other book projects or independent reading logs. Great way to practice supporting your ideas with textual evidence.
I keep the reviews in a binder so students will be able to look at them as a suggestion for what to read.
