Product Description

The following projects are designed to complement the reading of a novel or long picture book. After reading the story, you can choose the project you think will work best with your whole class, or use the two projects at the same time to help differentiate your instruction while still reading the same story with the whole class.

The first project is a ball created using pentagon shapes. This project has 12 tasks for the students to complete. The project has students:

- summarize the beginning, middle and end of the book

- choose their favourite event from the story, draw the event, and explain why it is

their favourite

- draw and colour a picture of the main character/s

- describe, draw, and colour a picture of the setting

- choose an event from the story that they feel is important, draw the event, and

explain why it is important to the story

- choose a character trait that they think describes a character from the story, and

give evidence from the story to justify their choice.

- Choose 10 powerful words they feel are important in the story.

- Rate the book out of 5 stars and explain why they would or would not

recommend this book to others

- Explain what they feel is the author’s message

The second project is a cube created using square shapes. This project has 6 tasks for students to complete. The project has students:

- write a 4-5 sentence summary of the story

- choose their favourite event from the story, draw the event, and explain why it is

their favourite

- draw and colour a picture of the main character/s

- describe, draw, and colour a picture of the setting

- choose a character trait that they think describes a character from the story, and

give evidence from the story to justify their choice.
