This is a great alternative to a book report or a story map. Students show their understanding of a book, and the elements of fiction of the book, in a creative format that they will enjoy doing. I have students who have returned to my classroom years later who still remember doing the project.
This lesson includes:
1. An overview of the project
2. Two note pages that help scaffold the information for the student. The note pages ask for more analysis than the final product (or evidence from the text to support their ideas).
3. A grading rubric (I complete it while the students present the project to the class, which cuts down on grading time).
4. A few pictures of other projects.
This project goes well with a handout I have that covers the elements of fiction:
Story Map: Elements of Fiction
I have another book project that has the students go more in depth with their analysis:
Book Report Project: Menu
