As a teacher, student, and parent, organization is always a challenge. Creating packets helps greatly in this task. This packet has a letter for parents explaining the expectations for a monthly report and a project that accompanies the written report. There is an example of a book report using the book, Hatchet by Gary Paulsen (read in class by the teacher), a graphic organizer expectations page, an example of a graphic organizer filled out using the same book, Hatchet, a blank page that may be duplicated, with my permission, a rubric that can be duplicated for scoring purposes, and a comprehensive list of suggested ideas for the projects with some instructions. I make a copy for each student, model the expectations, read through the packet and expectations and my work is finished in that regards. I just sit back and watch the wonderful reports and projects come in with proud students who now get to practice monthly speaking and presenting skills.
