Product Description
Novel Series RAFT is a book report option designed to creatively assess novel series, pushing students beyond simple recall to synthesis, evaluation and application levels of understanding.

Here’s what teachers are saying-
♥ I love this for independent reading. The teacher notes are great and I like the selections the students have.
♥ There are some fun ideas in this product.

RAFT is an acronym for Role Audience Format Topic. Students choose a role they want to assume and, based on that role, are given a format and topic for a specific audience. RAFTs are great ways to embed differentiated instruction in your classroom.

Choices for this RAFT include News Reporters (TV & Newspaper), Letter to the Author, Board Game Designer, and Comic Strip Author/ Illustrator. It's a popular reporting tool with my students because of the variety of choices they have to reflect on their novels, while offering various opportunities for different learning styles.

The Story Map helps them outline the essential details of each of the stories (setting; characters, major and minor; the plot with rising action, climax or turning point, falling action and conclusion; and theme/author's purpose) necessary to complete the RAFT requirements. A Student Contract keeps them motivated with deadlines they create with your input for completing their reading and final projects.

This resource includes the Series RAFT, Teacher Notes with a suggested scoring rubric and mini-lesson suggestions, a Story Map, student planning templates, teacher anecdotal notes page to track reading and contracted agreement, and two comic strip templates.

Novel Series RAFT and Author Study Newsletter are both included as part of READING Resources Bundled in my store.
