Do your students fly through books? Do you want to make sure they are reading their book and not just staring at the pages?
This is the perfect activity to hold students accountable for their reading. My students have a Just Right Book in their desk at all times. My students pull out their JRB whenever they are done with a task, while waiting to meet with me, in the morning, and during dismissal. I always have those students who just "pretend" to read and then simply return their book to the library and pick a new one. This year, I made it a point to hold them accountable for their reading. Once a student finishes their JRB they have to complete and hand in the Book Review activity. I then give them a "ticket" which allows them to enter our classroom library. Students are not allowed to visit our classroom library without a ticket. This has helped my students become active readers and accountable for their reading! It's also a great assessment tool to gauge their comprehension.
