These book review guides are meant to help students delve deeper into their novels. Unike most traditional book reports, the guides ask students to consider concepts related to theme, character changes, author's purpose, making connections, and author's craft. Students write their book reviews on paper or electronically. For students needing sentence stems, this resource is available in the packet as well.
I use the guides as an assessment for reading comprehension and writing. Along with the guides and assessment rubric, there is a form for students to use when they complete their book reviews that includes a feedback piece.
My students create and share book reviews monthly. I am amazed at their thinking. I hope these book review guides will benefit your class too!
