This CLASSROOM LIBRARY SCOOT features 28 cards and a fun twist to showcase books in your classroom library. It’s a quick, effective way for your students to peruse genres they may have never considered in the past.
1)Simply print out the scoot cards (decide how many you wish to use in your class). I have included 28 cards, but you may want to only use 16, or 24. Whatever works best for your students.
2)Choose the coordinating books that are suggested.
3)Attach the scoot cards with a paperclip to the front of the books, or by inserting the card into the cover of the book.
4)Give each student a scoot recording sheet.
5)Allow students 3-5 minutes per card. Students will need to skim and scan the books or novels to answer the questions.
6)At the end of the card rotations, this sparks a great launching pad for a conversation about genres.
ALTERNATE ACTIVITY IDEAS:
1)Have students work in pairs,
2)Have students complete a few of these cards a day as you practice Reader’s Workshop during the first week of school,
3)or use these cards as a quick, whole-group talking point at the beginning of class, featuring specific books from your classroom library.
