This is a two week book study aimed at Grade 5/6 students using the The House of Narcissus by Margaret Wild. It involves some deep thinking and thought provoking themes about being thankful and aware of others. Also included is a version of the myth Narcissus to help make the connection to the message, title and themes.
The main focus is on making connections, identifying literary devices and deep thinking comprehension. Other themes are also covered such as structure of narrative and vocabulary development.
Included is the 7 lesson planner which I used and all tasks students completed over the two weeks. I also used the time for guided reading so not all students completed all activities.
There are 'must do' tasks and 'choice' tasks which can be used in anyway you like. Students in my class always respond well to the chance to choose.
A story wheel can be used for any other novel or book study. There are also mini posters to help students with the literary devices covered. Metaphors are included although they are there only to illustrate the differences in metaphors and similes.
Any feedback would be most welcome.
