Book Talks are a great way get your students talking, and get them feeling comfortable and confident speaking in front of peers! Book Talks also allow students to share what they've enjoyed reading, which encourages others to pick up that book and read as well!
Each student is given a Book Talk Bookmark. There are two versions available. One can be used as a foldable so that students can fold over all the tabs and then open a tab to reveal the next question as they present their Book Talk to the class. The other version can be copied front and back. I would even suggest copying them on card stock and laminating them so that they can be used over and over again! Then students go to the front of the room with their Book Talk bookmark in hand and share about a book they are reading or have recently read. Have a few students share each day, or designate a whole class period for sharing once a month!
This is one of our favorite activities because students are given an opportunity to speak in front of peers, teachers check for comprehension, and EVERYONE in the room is included! Book talks is a great way to get students EXCITED about reading!
