This is a project my class completes each year on a book of their choice. This project can be used/modified to work with just about any grade level (I have a friend who uses it in her 7th grade literature class!) and student level. Included you will find,
~Detailed instructions on how I go about presenting and helping my students through this project
~Instruction sheet for student (There is an editable copy, as well)
~2 student examples from my own class (You can show them to your students as an example and a talking point.)
~A rubric you can use to grade your students (I also mention another way to grade this project in the instructions.)
~An example of how I score my students
~Reader's conference sign up sheet
~Individual reading conference sheet
This always turns out to be one of my students' favorite projects each year! The best part is each student is showing you his/her knowledge using a book he/she chose AND is on his/her level! They are more invested, so they work harder!
I created this project with fourth grade standards in mind, but this is an adaptable project. You could also use this project for those students who are eager to move on to the next thing or a group of students who are early finishers. This can also be used as a group or individual project in your reading groups. It's a great way to see how must each student/group has mastered each standard you are required to teach in literature. As a bonus, I love how it gets students presenting their own knowledge and teaches them how to organize a long term project. Great skills to know!
I hope you and your class enjoy this as much as mine does. Please don't hesitate to reach you if you have any questions or concerns to firstname.lastname@example.org, Thank you!
