The “Book Talk” chart is appropriate for reading comprehension instruction and text discussion in grades 3rd-8th, when utilized with selected leveled literature and grade level texts.
The student friendly reading comprehension strategies can be used in teaching text comprehension through discussion of all literature genres and in daily reading across the curriculum. Prior to literature and textbook reading lessons, identify the lesson Common Core English Language Arts Standards for comprehending the lesson text genres referenced on pages 9-10. Align/match the standards to the “Book Talk” strategies, which are your lesson focus and used to teach, practice, and assess the comprehension based strategy standards.
With implementation of the strategies through text discussion, watch your students’ text engagement, comprehension, and concept learning improve!
