I created this lesson to fill a shortened class period for students to share the books they have been reading for SSR throughout the first month of the class. This plan could also work if you have required out of class reading.
The lesson plan includes a handout for students to answer general questions about their book, two already filled in handouts for the teacher to share their answers to the questions on the books The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie and Prep by Curtis Sittenfield, and a fun list of random questions to ask the students after they have told about their book.
I cut out the random questions and put them in a fun little jar. Once the students were done giving their book talk, I had them choose a random question out of the jar themselves and answer it.
I also had students bring in treats for this day, which added another level of fun to this toned down day. We do this about once a month or so on assembly days when the classes are shorter.
