Product Description
Want students to be accountable for book talks? Build a reading community, increase word-of-mouth book recommendations, and practice speaking skills with this project!

Use this project to:
• Start your independent reading program, or give it a mid-year boost
• Do a diagnostic check of speaking skills
• Practice persuasive or opinion writing & speaking
• Shake up your curriculum between units
• …and more!

In this project, students can choose to present a single title, a series, or a collection of related books (such as by topic, genre, author, etc.) After some initial brainstorming, they write mini-speeches that become the basis of their book talks.

You can EITHER complete this project in a condensed timeline all at once, OR you can have students present their book talks gradually (such as a Book Talk of the Day/Week). You can also edit the pages to make the project easier or more challenging as needed, including the directions and rubric. (For example, you can make this a group project instead of individual if you wish!)

This 7-page download includes:
• Student directions page
• Signup sheet for your wall or clipboard
• Brainstorming graphic organizer
• CCSS-aligned rubric, speaking and reading standards
• Two sample book talks: one of a YA book, one for a classic
