VIDEO TUTORIAL: How to Host a Book Tasting Event

BLOG POST: How to Host a Book Tasting Event

Book-Tasting and Text-Tasting Activities are fun and they help students make reading/writing connections.

To run book-tasting or text-tasting events, you’ll need several books, short stories or articles and menu covers with task sheet inserts.

Students will...

... hunt for author’s craft techniques (e.g. word choice, using punctuation for effect, context clues, imagery, one-word sentences, etc.),

...get exposure to multi-genre texts, and

...discuss why they think authors use specific formats to deliver information.

Secure multiple pages with rubber bands to create handy reference booklets that students will use throughout the year.

What Do You Get?

Single Page Book Tasting and Text Tasting Menu Covers (color and black and white)

Folded Menu in two sizes (color and black and white)

Two Color Posters and Display Slides

Eight Task Card Menu Inserts

Three Placemats

One Cheat Sheet

Video, Text, and Photo Tutorials

What Buyers are Saying

"I absolutely LOVE this project! I've done it twice now with students and they've loved it. Once I set up the room as a fancy Italian restaurant complete with Frank Sinatra, battery powered votives, and grapes and cheese when finished. The other time with a Starbucks theme. I used students as baristas in black aprons, green tablecloths, and Starbucks donated cups. My kids are SO engaged in this and are incredibly excited to start reading!" ` Sarah O

“What a great resource to use at the beginning of the school year. Thanks!” ~ Linda L

“Reading specialist was very excited I bought this. It is going to save us time and we love the layout and set up notes. Thank you!” ~ Jerri C

“The kids loved this, and they keep the list in their binder. They have a "wish list" at all times, so there is no reason to come to my class without a book.” ~ Buyer

“Students selected books they normally would not have chosen.” ~ Carol B

“This is going to be a fabulous activity to use with my students! Thank you so much for the organization to be able to pull it off!” ~Alexhb
