Host a "Book Tasting" in your classroom this year! Just select books from your class (or school) library and put some out on tables by genre, or in any organizational way that works for you. Print and place "menus" with genre definitions at each table to help guide students, and have them spend 3-5 minutes per table looking over books, reading blurbs on the back or inside covers, reading just a bit of the first page, etc. Students can record titles of books on the recording sheet provided with a simple yes/no/maybe answer of whether they'd be interested in reading the book in the future. This is a great way to expose students to lots of possible choices in reading and to start building a list of books that they might like to read in the future!
