This is a Unit Plan of 99 pages that includes hundreds of examples of figurative language and literary elements for students to identify and explain for each section of Book Thief. This includes irony, metaphor, personification, symbolism, hyperbole, simile, alliteration. and more.
On the first page there is a color coding key and a reminder for them to look for the Notice and Note Signposts.
It also includes two separate lists of vocabulary words with page numbers. The condensed list includes matching quizzes for each section and answer keys as well.
I allowed students to define the words for homework and use their definitions for the quizzes since there are so many words. This held them accountable for the work and gave them exposure to the words without expecting them to memorize so many words.
