Thank you for purchasing this resource. I created this assignment in lieu of a traditional book report or summary of the plot. Students must support their responses with textual evidence. This book tracker asks students to identify the major elements contained in a book or novel. Students rate how well they liked the book at the end.
This assignment compliments the World Literature and American Literature texts by Lexile reading level handouts (posted for free in my store). My classes took a trip to the library to select a book from the list. I had identified students reading level through our district’s reading assessment, and students knew their level prior to selecting a book. Our librarian pulled as many books as she could find and put them on carts for me before we arrived. It was easier for me to oversee students’ selections with her assistance. I went over my expectations for completion of the assignment and then had students make a reading goal based on the number of pages their book contained. They had 4 weeks (a spring break week included) to read and complete the book tracker.
