Every teacher wants to inspire students to want to read novels, but that can be much more of a challenge than we expect. Get rid of the old school book reports where students simply read a novel and write a paper on it, and assign them a Book in a Bag project!
A Book in a Bag project is where students read a novel, identify the key components of fictional literature including characters, setting, plot, and theme. They display this information on the outside of a paper bag. Next, they select five items that represent their novel and place those items inside their bag. Finally, students present their bags in front of the class.
This resource has a set of student directions that are set up in a step-by-step format. It also includes a detailed rubric for grading the paper bags as well as for grading their presentation.
You receive a PDF-ready-to-print version as well as an editable version if you would like to make changes or modifications based upon your students' needs.
**This product is designed to be used in an upper elementary classroom. The language and rubrics are written using student-friendly language for upper elementary**
