The Atlanta Compromise Speech, also called the Atlanta Exposition Address, was delivered by Booker T. Washington at the Atlanta Cotton States and International Exposition on September 18th, 1895. It is considered one of the most important and influential speeches in American History. Despite criticism, the organizers invited this black speaker in order to demonstrate to the Northern States that racial progress was being made.
