This is a collection of 8 different books for your students to create. Each book includes kindergarten sight words and encourages students to use their "super reader" and "super writer" skills at the same time. Each book includes 4 different sentence stems (one on each page of the book) and students are expected to read the sentence, fill in the blank space with their best phonetic spelling, and add a picture that matches their words. While we do "Writers Workshop" every other day of the week, I love that these books encourage students to establish good writing habits from the beginning, using correct spacing, punctuation, etc... My students love creating these books every week and add them to their book bags to read during "Read to Self" and "Read to a Friend". Before every conference, the students choose a few of their favorite books that they created to read to their parents. Once the students get the hang of the books, it is also something that you can put into your literacy centers. The kindergarten sight words that are included in this series of books are: am, I, a, see, little, the, me, my, blue, big, it, is, green, red, orange, to, went, in, she, he, on, have, was, purple.
If you enjoy this series of books, please check out my 2nd, (more challenging) series of sentence stem books. Cheers!
