Here is the 2nd (more challenging) collection of books that I usually introduce beginning in January. Each book includes 4 different sentence stems (one on each page of the book) and students are expected to read the sentence, fill in the blank space using their best phonetic spelling, and add a picture that matches their words. While we do "Writers Workshop" every other day of the week, I love that these books encourage students to establish good writing habits from the beginning using appropriate spacing, punctuation, etc... Once the students get the hang of the activity, I sometimes put these into literacy centers and the students always place these in their book bags when they are completed to read later.
The kindergarten sight words that are included in this series of books are: I, see, my, is, a, she, big, little, it, and, have, went, they, to, came, the, he, like, with, on (In addition to a few other words that students will "stretch" out to decode the meaning of.) Have fun and enjoy! These books are easy to make and the students love to share them with each other and their families.
