Looking for another creative way for students to show you what they learned while reading their novels? Making a two-sided bookmark using the computer is easy and gets the job done. On one side of the bookmark, students include story setting, character descriptions, and graphics that relate to the theme or main idea of the book. On the back, students write a short summary, book review, and add graphics that relate to ideas in the book. Download the directions and hand-out to students to complete. A rubric is also attached to students' handout, so they understand how it will be scored. I have also included a sample bookmark using the novel "The Cay" for you to print and glue onto hardstock. Add yarn or ribbon, and the bookmark is complete to use as a model for students. (Have students type up on computer. Using Word, I had the students make two columns. After they print it out, have them glue onto hardstock and add tassels for authentic looking bookmark design).
