Template Description and Instructions:
The game was designed on Microsoft Office 2016 PowerPoint and depending on your software, may or may not work on a MAC. It should however, work on all PC compatible software even if you have a different version of Office. If you have trouble opening this template on a different version, let us know. We will try to send you a version compatible copy.
Save the original template in a save place. Never alter it in any way. Make a second copy of the template with a different title before you open it and make any changes.
The Bookworm template has a total of forty-five slides. Slide one is the introductory slide. Replace the word “Topic” at the top with the title of your game.
The game instructions are on slide two.
Slide three is the “Game Board” slide. Do not edit or move anything on this slide. If you do the game will not function properly. There is a link back to the instructions and to the “All-Nighter” winner’s celebration slide on the game board. Do not make any alterations to these either.
Slides four through thirty-nine are the thirty-six multiple-choice question slides. Paste or type in your question over the “/” symbol. There are three answer options, “a”, “b”, and “c”. Two of them are the incorrect answers. The correct answer must be pasted or typed next to the letter with an additional “c” for correct. Make sure to delete the additional letter “c” after putting in your answer. Each of the answer options is linked to either slide forty, the “Your Book was Returned on Time” spinner slide (the correct answer) or slide forty-two, the “Your Book was Returned Late” spinner slide (the incorrect answer) so the answer order is very important!
Slide forty-one is the “Take your Bonus Books!” slide. Slide forty-three is the “Receive Your Book Fine!” slide. Slide forty-four is the “All-Nighter” or winner celebration slide. Slide forty-five has the templated instructions. Do nothing with any of these slides.
In a nutshell, all you have to do is paste in your title on the first slide then paste in your questions and answers on the appropriate slides. Leave the other slides alone and all should function perfectly well.

If you’re having trouble getting this PowerPoint to work, be sure to “Enable Macros” when opening the file. If you don’t see a box when you open PowerPoint, your security settings may be set too high. In this case, go to the “Tools” menu and select “Options.” Click on [Macro Security…] and then select “Medium.” Press OK until you return to the show. Now save this file and then re-open it. You should now receive the dialog shown above. Click “Enable Macros”

This game features a game board with thirty-six animated bookworms that players click on to go to one of thirty-six multiple-choice questions, and eight scoreboards to keep track of bonus books and book fines. This means that the game can be played with up to eight individual players or eight teams. The game includes an introductory slide with the topic, a “Your Book was Returned on Time” or correct answer spinner slide, a “Your Book was Returned Late” or incorrect answer spinner slide, a “Take your Bonus Books” or correct answer reward slide, a “Receive your Book Fine” or incorrect answer penalty slide, and an “All-Nighter” winner celebration slide for a total of forty-four slides. All of the slides have sounds triggered by a button or transition to the slide. Every game slide also has buttons to go back to the game board or the instructions.
How to Play:
If you play with teams, choose them randomly by whatever method you wish. Each team must select a team captain that will choose the bookworms to click on, answer questions, spin the reward or penalty spinners, and get the rewards or penalties. With each turn the captain can be rotated to keep all players involved. You can also play with up to eight singles. Just do whatever suits your class’s needs best. Players must also choose a player/team number on the scoreboard to represent them.
When players click on an animated bookworm, they will be directed to one of the thirty-six multiple-choice questions. Players must then click on the option they think is correct.
If the correct answer is chosen, players are automatically directed to the “You Returned your Book on Time” spinner slide. If the wrong answer is given, they are directed to the “You Returned your Book Late” spinner slide. This takes out any guesswork as to whether the answer is correct or incorrect.
When players are on the “Your Book was Returned on Time” slide, they must click on the spinner to activate it and re-click on it to make it stop. Players must now remember the number the spinner stopped on, then click on the “To Bonus Books” button on the top left-hand side of the screen. This will take them to the “Take your Bonus Books” slide. Players will click on the number of the square that corresponds to the number the spinner landed on. This action will reveal their book reward which will be one, two, or three books. Players must then click on the books to recover them. This way all of the books remain in play for the rest of the game. Now the player/team must click on the “To Board” button and manually add the number of books won to their scoreboard box.
With incorrect answers, players will do click on the spinner and follow the instructions above until they are back at the game board. Players will deduct the number of books fined from their total number of books. A “-“ symbol can be placed in their scoreboard if necessary.
Players will take turns clicking on bookworms and answering questions.
A winner is either determined by who has the most books when the last question has been answered or when a preset amount of time is up. In the case of a book amount tie, have players return to one of the spinner slides. Players will then choose a number between one and thirty. The teacher will activate and stop the spinner. The player chose the number that is closest to the number the spinner landed on wins. Once a winner is determined the player/team gets to click on the “All-Nighter” button on the game board to celebrate!
Note: If players happen to click outside of the “clickable” area of one of the trigger objects it will take them to another screen. Don’t panic! PowerPoint has a watermark-like menu on the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Just click on the final circle on the right with the three dots. Then click on “last viewed”. This will return you to the place in the game where you left off.
