6 Page Student Investigation Journal
Students will test to see if different waters affect crystal growth. Students will create a supersaturated solution. They will discover that distilled water is a pure substance and other types of water may not be. In the investigation the students will create a hypothesis. They will record data and create a graph. Students will be guided on how to write a summary and conclusion. Each one is modified for the different grade levels.
Teachers will love the step by step directions and journal layout. Students will enjoy seeing the crystals form. This is a great activity for science fairs, classrooms, clubs, or science camps.
The 2nd/3rd grade investigation contains word boxes and more guidance. They complete one trial. The 4th/5th grade investigation tests different waters and students perform two trials. The 6th-8th grade version expands to an if, then, because hypothesis, 4 waters to test, and 3 trials.
