This lab activity is used in my 8th grade classroom as a review of physical and chemical changes prior to beginning the chemical bonding and chemical reactions chapters. This is a creative and entertaining way to review the differences between physical and chemical changes, introduce crystal structure, and revisit geology concepts learned in earlier grades. The crystals grow large and quickly on the pipe cleaners. It's fun to hang the "snowflakes" from the classroom ceiling to make your very own snow storm!
