My students LOVE this lesson. First, we go through the few things that are known about the Boston Massacre. Then we look at some images created to depict the event and read some of the different testimony. Then comes their favorite part- they get to write down who they think is at fault and why, then they make them into snowballs and throw them at me. We go through and read some of the student responses (how many just depends on time, if we have time sometimes we'll tally up the class responses.)
Then the follow up (2nd day for us with 45 minute periods) we talk about propaganda, what it is, different types, etc. Which leads us into learning about what the Patriots, Loyalists, and Neutrals are.
This includes both lessons (Boston Massacre & Propaganda with Patriot, Loyalists, and Neutrals) and should take around 90 minutes total.
