Alphabet Bottle Caps is a fun activity that incorporates fine motor skills, letter recognition, number recognition, oral counting, number matching, and number writing.

This is a great hands-on activity to have for a math center or working with a small group of students. Students stay engaged and are excited be little detectives to find out the mystery number that's hidden in the corner by using a magnifying glass to check their work!

The alphabet bottle cap activity includes all 26 uppercase letters of the alphabet. Each page has an anchor picture to help students recognize the letter on the page.

Students will practice oral counting and number recognition to fill in the the "puzzle" of the letter with bottle caps.

Alphabet Bottle Caps can be used in a variety of ways to meet your student's learning needs.

Students will learn and practice writing numbers 10-20.

ACCOMMODATIONS: number line is at the bottom of the recording sheet to help with number recognition and number writing.


1. Collect A LOT of bottle caps!! You will need at least 20 bottle caps for each student’s sheet.
2. Label the inside of the bottle cap with a number.
3. Have students write one number in each circle on the piece of paper (with the alphabetic letter) they are working on. Or Teachers can pre-write the numbers on the circles.
4. Students will pull the bottle caps out of the bag one at a time, say the number and then place the bottle cap on top of the matching number from their paper (number side up).
5. Once the student has covered all of the circles with the bottle caps, check the student’s work to make sure they matched the numbers correctly.
** Extra practice: Students have to say the number on the bottle cap as they put away each bottle cap back into the bag/bin.
6. There will be a number in the corner of each page to let you know how many bottle caps you will need for the letter.

GAME #2:
Be a detective and find out how many caps it takes to fill in the letter! After you’re done counting with caps, write down your answer on the recording sheet.
**Modification- put a number on each bottle cap to help build number recognition as student is counting.
Use the magnifying glass to see if your answer is correct. Hover over the mystery number in the corner of the page!

-You can have students practice counting using the first letter of their name
-You can have students practice counting by the “letter of the week”
- You can have students practice counting by choosing a letter they are familiar with or with a letter they need to work on.

Common Core Alignment:
R.F. K1 Recognize and name all upper- and lowercase letters of the alphabet.

K.CC.A.3 Write numbers from 0 to 20. Represent a number of objects with a written numeral 0-20 (with 0 representing a count of no objects).

K.CC.B.5 Count to answer “how many?” questions about as many as 20 things arranged in a line, a rectangular array, or a circle, or as many as 10 things in a scattered configuration; given a number from 1–20, count out that many objects.

K.CC.C.6 Identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group, e.g., by using matching and counting strategies.

K.CC.C.7 Compare two numbers between 1 and 10 presented as written numerals.
