This is a great hands on lesson that allows students to put their knowledge of quadratics into practice. Students work in groups of 3 or 4 to create a video of a ball bouncing, and then label the characteristics of the parabola created.
You will need an iPad for each group with an app that allows students to record and then draw on the video. I have used Coach My Video app, it is free and it works great. Also need a tennis (or other bouncy) ball, some tape to mark height measurements on a wall, and a ruler to measure the height distances. Students will record a ball bouncing, and then go back and draw the parabola made onto the video, stopping several times to label the time. This product includes a printable instruction sheet, an example of a finished parabola, and a sheet for students to fill out to describe the characteristics.
