This is a great box and whisker plot activity that has students looking at sets of data in strips of paper that they need to fold to find the minimum, maximum, and median. It is a very hands on activity that students can do in a group or alone. The specific directions are:
1. In your group of three, have each person fold their strip on half. Make a note of the median of each set of data. You'll need this soon.
2. Now, take the strip and fold it again. The numbers in the new creases are the lower quartile (Q1) and the upper quartile (Q3).
3. On the number line below, construct three box and whisker plots to show your data. Then, answer the question below the plot.
Students will be excited about box and whisker plots again!
