This very simple activity, based on the movie The Boy in the Striped Pajamas, is guaranteed to promote thinking at the highest level and get every student involved in discussing the most poignant themes and issues of this powerful movie. You will get 20 thought provoking statements that students must take a position on individually and then debate or argue until they come to a consensus in small groups and then as a whole class if you choose to do so.
You will also get the idea of how to apply this simple activity to most any historical topic. I also provide a link to an actual SS officer’s compelling report on a gassing he witnessed.
Finally, to encourage comparison between the movie and reality you will also get a 20 slide presentation comparing the real Auschwitz to that portrayed in the movie.
A TPT user said of my similar Cold War activity: “This went really well for my group. I think it's a great idea that could be adapted well for any topic really, but is especially good for the Cold War since there are two sides to consider for almost every incident.”
