Leon Leyson's Boy on the Wooden Box is a Holocaust survivor story. This webquest takes students through the before, during and after of Leyson's life and the Holocaust via various websites, short readings and embedded videos. Various slides have questions for focus and/or writing prompts. The ultimate task is for students to create a 3D memorial that represents Leyson's life before the Holocaust and during and after the Holocaust. The project includes pictures of sample memorials and a rubric. There is a teacher slide with two valuable links that provide student memorial teaching directions, models and alternate rubrics to use. This Webquest could be used before the book but is best used after the book is read. This Webquest could also be used as enrichment for any Holocaust unit. Estimated Teaching Duration covers student use of PPT Webquest only and does not include time to create memorial. This Webquest could be used without the memorial project assigned. The price for this Webquest covers the time and organization of these resources into one teaching/learning unit.
