Boymouse Meets Girlmouse consists of 48 “story cards”, although only the twelve corresponding to “Spring” are included in this , for the teaching of basic action verbs in any language, including ELA.
Their storytelling aspect helps the children to remember the vocabulary, and stimulates their imagination and storytelling skills.
The cards can be adapted to children of different levels and ages (K up to grade 5).They are divided into four suits, sold separately. The actions depicted are:
First suit (summer-yellow): walk; eat; drink; swim; talk; dance; run; jump; sing; play soccer; sleep; fly.
Second suit (autumn-red): work; write; read; climb; look at/see; paint; ride bikes; cut; play the guitar; cook; watch a movie; cry.
Third suit (winter-blue): go to school; wash/clean; buy; wear sunglasses; listen to music; come/arrive; skate; drive; win; lose; shout; fight/argue.
Fourth suit (spring-green): get up; get dressed; have breakfast; think about; have lunch; do your homework; use the computer/chat; sit down; have dinner; laugh; kiss; take a picture.
Depending on the age and language skills of the group, these cards can be used to practice:
Numbers (every time children see or play a card, they must say the number): seven.
Number plus color: seven green (or green seven).
Seasons plus number: seven winter.
The action (infinitive): eat.
Short sentences: He's eating; He eats a lot in summer; He ate cheese, etc.
The cards can be printed in two different formats: playing card size (3.5” x 2.8”); and flash card size (6.8” x 5.2”). The smaller format can be used for small groups or to play traditional card games; the larger format is better for big groups.
