What are Brain Booster Binders?
Brain Booster Binders are a great option for morning work, guided math workshop, or early finishers. Once you make the initial copies (only 4 pages per student), you can use the folder all year for daily math practice. Options in the Brain Booster Binder include:
Number of the Day (2-digit and 3-digit)
Word Problem of the Day
Roll & Add/Pull a Card & Add Activities
Roll & Multiply/Pull a Card & Multiply Activities
Timed Fill-In Addition or Multiplication Tables
All you have to do each day is give the students the number of the day and a word problem. You can do this by writing on the board or projecting it. Then students can complete any additional pages that they have time for.
The Number of the Day pages review many skills each day in a consistent format.
The Word Problem of the Day page asks students to pull out the important information, solve the problem, and explain their answer in words. This format will work with just about any word problem you choose.
The Roll & Add/Multiply activities will feel like a game to students because they are using dice. I recommend making your own dice from foam cubes found at the dollar stores. That way you can decide which numbers to include on the dice and differentiate for students. These activities can also be completed with number cards.
The Timed Fill-In Addition & Multiplication Tables are a fun way for students to practice fact fluency. Students can use a timer to time how long it takes to complete the table. Each time, the students can try to beat their previous time.
