These Brain Break Wiggle Cards are aligned with the second grade Core Knowledge Language Arts Skills Strand (a Common Core aligned systematic phonics program). These cards are part of the supplemental materials of this program, BUT can be used in any classroom as a brain break!
The purpose of the Wiggle Cards is to get kids moving and grooving to the directions on the card while reading decodable sentences that help them practice second grade sound and spelling patterns that they are learning. These Wiggle Cards can be used in many different ways and the kids just love them! These are a fun resource whether or not you use the CKLA Skills Strand in your instruction.
You can print these cards on colored paper, keep these cards on a whole sheet, or cut them up, laminate, and store them in a box or jar to use after teaching each phonics skill or spelling pattern. Continue to add to the jar or box throughout the year! Some ways you can use these Wiggle Cards are:
-Activity for early finishers
-Brain breaks (whole class or individual)
-Whole class review of phonics skills and spelling patterns before a spelling test or phonics assessment
-Send home for homework activities or extra practice
-After performing the action, the kids highlight the spelling pattern they are working on
-Whole class: have students read the card silently and then upon cueing them, act out the card
-Transitions between subjects
-Closure activity at the end of a CKLA or other phonics lesson
-Small group activity
