This is a great activity for kids who like constructing and love the hands-on approach! Originally designed with the gifted child in mind, these challenges provide “brain candy” for minds that think creatively and outside-the-box. Students will be constructing a toy out of given materials to take the place of Halloween candy. It involves teamwork and creativity. This lesson will have several parts, and kids will need to be in groups of 3-5. Students will brainstorm, read a short informative story, and then be given a bag full of “Brain Candy,” which consists of a challenge and materials. Materials are everyday things found around the home or office, or bought cheaply at the store. Before the Brain Candy Challenge, materials will need to be put into bags (I use opaque bags to keep the materials a mystery before we jump in!) with one Brain Candy Challenge Card per bag. This will tell the students what their goal/mission is. You will be amazed at how creative their end-results are! Happy Halloween!
