Brain Drain is a fast-paced challenge that I often used as a time-filler for those minutes before recess or at the end of the day. Two students step up to front of room. You will read the list of items under the given category...for example you will read Santa Fe, Denver, Des Moines, Jefferson City, Nashville, Tallahassee -- the first student to identify them as CAPITALS wins the round and remains in the front while the other student sits down. If they give an incorrect category they are “out” -- in the case of the “capitals” -- if they say cities it is okay unless their opponent can be more specific. If neither know the answer, both sit down. They may jump in and answer before you finish the list...but only get one shot at the answer.
