Free! This is a quick and easy strategy to use as an ‘anticipation’ activity! Your students will show what they already know and what they learn using a ‘Brain Dump’... Get your students thinking all about what they know about a topic that you are going to teach! Just hand out the Brain Dump sheet and give the students the topic for the lesson. Give them a few minutes to write down EVERYTHING they know about that topic in the brain wrinkles on the left brain (the ‘before’ brain). Have them put this sheet to the side during the lesson. Teach the lesson. At the end of the lesson, ask the students to take a minute or two to fill in everything they know now about the topic on the right brain (the ‘after’ brain). They can re-write things from the left brain that were correct, or they can cross out things that they wrote in the left brain that they now know are incorrect. Either way, your students will come off of the lesson feeling confident that they’ve learned something! Keep these sheets on hand for those days when you didn’t have time to create warm-up or a specific closure activity for a lesson!
